Bank of Canada 1954 $1 BCS Choice UNC 64 BC-37cA Bouey-Rasminsky Modified Portrait Replacement
Prior to 1954, notes having printing errors by the bank note companies or signing errors by Bank of Canada employees had to be set aside in the Bank's examining room until replacement notes were received from the printer. Due to the delay and the tedious task of supplying a replacement of individually numbered notes to match the error notes, a new system was set in place wherein independently numbered replacement notes were printed with an asterisk preceding the serial number and stocks of these were used to replace defective/error notes.
Presented here is a beautiful choice uncirculated $1 1954 Bank of Canada replacement note having a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (black with green tint) on the front and a view of the Western prairie and sky (green) on the back, signed by Gerald K. Bouey (left) and Louis Rasminsky (right).
